Amman, May 13 (Petra) -- Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority has stepped up efforts to strengthen workplace safety standards after concluding a specialized occupational safety and public health training program involving employees and members of the local community.

The program was implemented in cooperation with the Jordanian Italian Center for Qualification and Training and focused on enhancing professional readiness and promoting safer work environments across operational sites in Petra.

Petra Authority Chairman Adnan Sawa'ir honored participants during a ceremony attended by senior officials from the authority, including Deputy Chairman and Commissioner for Financial and Administrative Affairs Shaker Al-Adwan and Commissioner for Reserve Management and Tourism Yazan Mahadin.

According to the authority, the initiative reflects ongoing efforts to invest in human capital through specialized training programs aimed at improving occupational safety standards and operational efficiency.

Sawa'ir said strengthening occupational safety and public health practices remains a priority in maintaining secure work environments for both employees and visitors.

He also praised cooperation with the Jordanian Italian Center for Qualification and Training and its role in delivering specialized professional training programs focused on capacity building and workforce development.

The authority said similar training initiatives targeting employees and local communities will continue as part of broader efforts to improve professional competencies and workplace preparedness.

The program included 22 participants, among them 17 employees from the authority and five members of the local community.

Participants received practical and theoretical training covering workplace safety procedures, risk prevention methods, emergency response measures and the promotion of occupational safety culture in professional environments.
