Petra, Jan. 3 (Petra) – The number of visitors to Petra jumped 83 percent last month compared with the same period a year earlier, according to data from the Archaeological Documentation and Tourism Studies Center at the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA).
The site welcomed 75,319 visitors in November, up from 41,110 in the same month of last year.
Foreign arrivals rose 135 percent to 56,666 visitors, compared with 22,830 a year earlier. The number of Arab visitors increased to 3,211 from 1,876, marking a 71 percent rise.
Jordanian visitors totaled 17,348, up from 15,259 in the same period last year a 13.6 percent increase. Meanwhile, resident visitors numbered 1,094 compared with 1,145 last year.
The busiest day was Nov. 7, which saw 4,635 visitors enter the site.
The United States topped the list of source markets, followed by Russia, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Poland, Italy and Spain, alongside several other Asian and European nationalities.
Yazan Mahadin, PDTRA Commissioner for the Nature Reserve and Tourism, said the figures reflect a clear improvement in the city’s tourism performance, particularly in foreign arrivals.
He said the authority continues to upgrade services, manage visitor flows within the archaeological site, and implement projects aimed at preserving Petra’s heritage and ensuring its sustainability for future generations.
Mahadin added that the coming phase will see further development projects designed to enhance service quality and increase the site’s visitor capacity.
