Petra, Feb. 5 (Petra) -- Official statistics issued by the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) showed a "noticeable" improvement in foreign visitor numbers in 2025, signaling a gradual restoration of confidence in Petra as a global tourist destination after regional and international challenges in recent years.

The statistics put total Petra visitors in 2025 at around 582,550, up 27% from 457,215 in 2024.

For foreign visitors, the data showed a mixed trajectory over 2019-2025. Foreign arrivals reached around 1,000,179 in 2019, before falling to 271,760 in 2020 and 135,229 in 2021 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Foreign tourism traffic then recovered gradually in 2022 and 2023, as 683,798 visitors in 2022 and 985,696 in 2023, before a sharp decline in 2024 to 257,284 foreign visitors, down 74%, due to regional developments.

In 2025, foreign visitor numbers rose again to 373,752, up 45% from 2024, accounting for 64% of total Petra visitors during the year.

October recorded the highest monthly total in 2025 with 81,069 visitors, while December saw a notable improvement to 53,383 visitors, up 95% compared with the same month in 2024.

The indicators point to a gradual return of confidence in Petra and the early stages of a broader tourism recovery, supported by the return of multiple air routes to the region, particularly low-cost services.
