Police arrest suspect in coffee shop hit-and-run theft

Amman, Jan 11 (Petra) - Police on Sunday arrested a driver who robbed a coffee shop located on one of the roads in the Ras Al-Ain area of Amman and fled the scene, nearly causing the death of one of the shop’s workers.
The Public Security Directorate (PSD)’s spokesperson said personnel from the Capital Criminal Investigation Division began on Friday investigating a complaint received from a coffee shop after a person, while inside his vehicle, ordered purchases from the shop and, after the worker handed him the order, fled the scene, dragging the worker for a distance, which led to his fall. The worker was taken to the hospital in moderate condition.
The spokesperson confirmed that the criminal investigation team, after gathering information and analyzing the criminal modus operandi, was able to narrow suspicion to a person who had committed four similar cases in recent months, three of them targeting coffee shops, while the fourth occurred at a gas station, where he filled up and fled without paying the amount due. He noted that these cases were followed up at the time, the suspect was arrested, confessed to committing all of them, and was referred to the judiciary and detained at a correction and rehabilitation center.
The spokesperson added that the individual’s location was identified, he was raided and arrested again, and investigations were launched to refer him to the judiciary and take all legal and administrative measures against him.
