Amman, Feb 11 (Petra) - The Public Security Directorate (PSD)’s spokesperson said a special investigative team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has recently launched an investigation into a series of thefts carried out by unknown individuals targeting several kiosks and coffee shops in different areas of Amman.

The spokesperson added that through gathering information, studying criminal methods, and collecting evidence from crime scenes, the investigation team was able to identify a criminal network consisting of six people led by an individual with a criminal record who was sentenced in 2018 to eight years in prison and was released from a correction and rehabilitation center a month ago.

He said CID raid teams and investigators over the past five days located the suspects, raided their hideouts, and arrested five of them, who confessed to carrying out the thefts of coffee shops and kiosks, while the search continued for the main instigator.

The spokesperson said that after surveillance and intelligence gathering, specialized teams on Tuesday afternoon identified the whereabouts of the main suspect and instigator inside a vehicle east of Amman and moved to arrest him. He resisted the security force and attempted to flee after ramming another vehicle, but officers managed to disable his car and arrest him. He said the strictest legal and administrative measures will be taken against those involved.
