Prime Minister inspects Dead Sea projects, sets Independence Day deadline

Dead Sea, April 23 (Petra) -- Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Thursday inspected tourism service facilities and the Dead Sea Corniche development projects implemented by the Jordan Free and Development Zones Group along the northern shoreline, directing authorities to expedite completion ahead of Independence Day.

The first phase includes the development of a 750-meter beachfront promenade, to be extended to three kilometers in the second phase. The works encompass landscaping and beautification, the establishment of shaded seating areas, family-friendly spaces, playgrounds, swimming pools, sports facilities, service units, restaurants, retail outlets, and expanded green areas and pedestrian walkways.

Upon completion, the development will span more than 200 dunams and feature recreational spaces, parking facilities, commercial outlets, and a range of tourism and public services catering to both domestic and international visitors.

During the tour, the Prime Minister highlighted the project’s strategic importance, underscoring its anticipated socioeconomic returns for local communities and its contribution to strengthening the national tourism product.

He also called for ensuring the provision and sustainability of high-quality services and amenities along the shoreline, alongside diversifying tourism offerings and seasonal activities to position the site as a major leisure destination for citizens and a competitive attraction for inbound tourism, particularly during the current peak season.

The Prime Minister was briefed by Sakher Ajlouni, Chairperson of the Group’s Board of Directors, on the comprehensive development blueprint, which seeks to integrate the existing tourist beach and corniche projects to enhance the site’s competitiveness as a global destination.

Ajlouni noted that the project is expected to generate employment opportunities for residents through small-scale productive and commercial enterprises along the beachfront.

The development plan also includes expanding activities and events at Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II Park during the tourism season to enhance visitor experience and increase site attractiveness.
