Princess Basma Hands Over Aid to Beneficiaries in Aqaba’s Al-Quweira District

Aqaba, Feb 4 (Petra) – Her Royal Highness Princess Basma bint Talal, president of the Higher Committee of the Goodwill Campaign (GWC), on Wednesday handed over assistance provided by the campaign to targeted groups in Al-Quweira District in Aqaba Governorate.

During her meeting with several women at the Princess Basma Development Center in the district, Her Royal Highness delivered support provided by the GWC to several women in the area to enable them to sustain their productive projects in the cultivation of aromatic plants and prickly pear.

The meeting was attended by Executive Director of the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD), Farah Daghistani, Aqaba Governor Ayman Al-Awaisheh, Al-Quweira District Governorate Administrator Dhaifallah Al-Salamain, and Mayor of Al-Quweira Municipality Sameeh Abu Amriyah.

Her Royal Highness also handed over, within the framework of the GWC's Paths of Knowledge program, emergency educational assistance to several university students enrolled in public universities from the area who are studying specializations aligned with labor market requirements. This was in addition to providing food parcels, emergency assistance, and fuel vouchers to many women heads of households in the area. She also distributed winter clothing and toys to some orphaned children in the area.

During the handover, Princess Basma said that the GWC places great importance, through its work and in cooperation with its partners, on contributing to supporting national efforts to improve the living and economic conditions of underprivileged families, especially those headed by women, enabling them to rely on themselves, manage their affairs, and transform into productive families.

She stressed that the campaign, in line with its humanitarian, social, and developmental objectives and in harmony with JOHUD’s directions, seeks, together with its partners, to empower young people and assist them through educational and training opportunities that qualify them to join the labor market.

Her Royal Highness also addressed sustainable developmental projects and interventions adopted by the campaign through productive initiatives that contribute to achieving development at the family and community levels and provide stable and sustainable sources of income for targeted families. She noted that rural families constitute an important pillar in the process of community development.

She explained that throughout its journey, the GWC has contributed to supporting and providing many development opportunities for underprivileged families in various governorates and districts of the Kingdom, transforming many of them from recipients of services and assistance into productive, empowered families capable of self-reliance.

Princess Basma pointed to the importance of the relationship between the campaign and its partners from various sectors, reflecting a purposeful participatory approach among national institutions to support and enhance the development process and provide the requirements for achieving and ensuring its success. She also stressed translating social responsibility into genuine development initiatives and programs.

During a panel discussion attended by representatives of public and civil institutions in Al-Quweira District, Her Royal Highness listened to a briefing on the interventions that JOHUD, through the GWC, will implement in the area in cooperation with its partners through development programs and initiatives. The panel also addressed mechanisms for networking and coordinating efforts among various entities to provide the best possible level of services to citizens and meet their needs and aspirations.
