Amman, June 9 (Petra) – HRH Princess Basma bint Talal on Tuesday inaugurated the renovated Knowledge Station at the Umm Al Hussein Orphanage.
Upgraded with support from the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global Group in cooperation with the Embassy of South Africa in Jordan, the project, implemented under the Group's "National Knowledge Centers" initiative, included expanding the facility and equipping it with modern digital technologies.
The station is expected to support training programmes and digital courses for orphanage residents and members of the local community, helping to develop their digital skills and enrich the educational environment.
Princess Basma praised the initiative, describing the station as a valuable addition to the orphanage that provides a modern learning space and promotes innovation, lifelong learning and skills development.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Princess Basma said the project reflects the importance of partnerships between national institutions, diplomatic missions and the private sector in advancing development goals and shared humanitarian values.
She called for supporting digital skills in education and commended efforts to strengthen the orphanage's role as a model for care, education and empowerment, including the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD) contributions. In turn, Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, Chairman and Founder of the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global Group, said the opening of the station aligns with the Group's vision of supporting digital transformation and expanding access to education and training opportunities.
He discussed the role of the Group's Knowledge Stations across the Kingdom in promoting equal access to knowledge. He said that technology is a key driver of sustainable development and youth empowerment.
Abu-Ghazaleh said that the project forms part of broader initiatives aimed at expanding learning opportunities and supporting young people in line with the Royal vision for youth empowerment.
He praised the Umm Al Hussein Orphanage for its longstanding efforts in caring for children and providing them with quality educational opportunities, describing the new centre as an important step toward enhancing learning, creativity and future prospects for its residents.
South African Ambassador to Jordan, Tselane Mokuena, expressed pride in the partnership between the embassy and the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global Group, saying the initiative reflects a shared commitment to education as a fundamental right and to investing in young people's potential.
Mokuena said the Knowledge Station would help improve the quality of education at the orphanage, develop students' skills and create new opportunities for their future.
Founded in 1958 by the late Queen Zein Al Sharaf, the Umm Al Hussein Orphanage is a national institution providing care, shelter and educational opportunities for orphaned and vulnerable children.
For decades, it has played a key role in supporting generations of young Jordanians and helping them build brighter futures. //Petra// AK
