Princess Muna Chairs UJ's Nursing Council Meeting

Amman, Jan. 27 (Petra)- Her Royal Highness Princess Muna Al Hussein, president of the Jordanian Nursing Council, chaired a meeting of the Council of the School of Nursing at the University of Jordan on Tuesday.

She was received by University President Nathir Obeidat, Dean of the School of Nursing Areej Othman, and members of the school council.

During the session, Princess Muna stressed the importance of preparing and qualifying nurses in the elderly care field, underscoring the need to keep pace with community needs. The school expressed its readiness to incorporate these directives into specialized programs and courses within its academic plans in the coming phase.

For her part, Othman expressed appreciation for Princess Muna’s continued support for the nursing sector, particularly the School of Nursing at the University of Jordan, noting that this support has contributed to academic and research achievements over the past two years.

She reviewed the school’s key achievements, including progress in global rankings such as the Shanghai Ranking, as well as its placement among the world’s top 50 nursing faculties according to the QS World University Rankings.

Othman also pointed to an increase in published scientific research, enhanced support for scientific research, and the launch of student research clubs under faculty supervision. In addition, three of the school’s researchers were ranked among the top 2% of researchers worldwide.

She addressed efforts to develop the school’s facilities under the University of Jordan’s infrastructure and classroom development project, the recent opening of a reading hall, the renewal of international accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) until 2030, and the granting of Jordanian accreditation for four years.

The council discussed the school’s proposal to develop attractive and distinctive academic programs. In this context, Head of the Curriculum Committee Abir Shaheen presented a proposal to introduce a Bachelor’s program in "Nursing Science (3+1)" taught in English.

The program focuses on the quality of nursing care in a global context in response to the needs of local, regional, and international labor markets. The final year would be devoted to intensive training at local and international healthcare institutions.

The proposed program requires students to spend their final year at one of the partner universities and affiliated health facilities under cooperation agreements with the University of Jordan, such as Columbia University in the United States, Lund University in Sweden, and the University of Alberta in Canada.

Princess Muna stressed the importance of proceeding with the procedures to establish the program, noting its role in giving students the opportunity to gain diverse, multicultural international experience, particularly in light of the strong employment and academic reputation enjoyed by Jordanian nursing professionals worldwide.
