Amman, Aug. 13 (Petra) -- The executive program of the Economic Modernization Vision for the first half of the year recorded progress on several priorities aimed at improving Jordan’s standing in the Legatum Prosperity Index, including completing and processing the data required for the index.
The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission updated the relevant indicator data in coordination with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and verified the accuracy and completeness of the 2024 data published on the DataHub platform. It also provided the ITU with updated 2025 telecommunications data for the two indicators included in the World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Questionnaire 2026.
Work also covered indicators related to fixed water assets, water production and renewable water resources. The Department of Statistics and the Ministry of Water and Irrigation coordinated to complete and review the 2025 data, with the aim of approving and publishing it during the third quarter of this year.
For the road density indicator, measured in kilometers of road per 100 square kilometers of land, the Department of Statistics coordinated with the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, the Ministry of Local Administration and the Greater Amman Municipality to complete data on the lengths of main and secondary roads and calculate the indicator.
The Greater Amman Municipality calculated the lengths and number of paved roads within the boundaries of Amman Governorate and provided the figures to the Department of Statistics. A consolidated table covering road lengths across the Kingdom was also completed, and the road density indicator was calculated according to the approved methodology and included in the Statistical Yearbook.
As part of efforts to improve Jordan’s ranking in the Business Readiness Index, 10 areas were examined based on the World Bank report. A matrix of proposed reforms was prepared, reviewed and approved, followed by the development of an implementation plan that groups the reforms according to the time required to carry them out. Detailed profiles for the reforms are now being prepared, including specific implementation timelines.
Work is also underway on an action plan to improve Jordan’s position in the Green Growth Index. Coordination meetings were held to review the sub-indicators under the index’s four pillars, establish a clear methodology and identify the data sources needed for the indicators covered by the report.
The Secretariat also held coordination meetings with teams responsible for relevant international indicators to align methodologies and improve coordination on shared or overlapping data, helping streamline the work and avoid duplication.
Regarding the Environmental Performance Index, the review of the indicators included in the 2024 global report was completed, including their definitions, weightings and any updates made by Yale University. The review focused on the 10 indicators carrying the highest weights in the calculation, in coordination with the relevant directorates. The Secretariat also contacted Yale University, which produces the report, to clarify the indicators and verify and update the related information.
