Amman, July 30 (Petra) -- The Public Security Directorate (PSD) on Thursday advised the public to take precautionary measures as a hot air mass is expected to affect the Kingdom from Thursday, with conditions forecast to peak on Saturday and continue until the middle of next week, according to official weather forecasts.

In a statement, the Directorate said it remains fully prepared to respond to emergency calls and provide assistance around the clock. It urged citizens and residents to follow preventive guidance aimed at reducing the risk of heatstroke, heat exhaustion and fires.

The PSD advised people to avoid direct exposure to the sun, particularly during midday hours, drink plenty of water, wear light and loose-fitting clothing, use protective head coverings and take adequate breaks, especially those whose work requires extended periods outdoors.

The Directorate also stressed that children should not be left inside vehicles under any circumstances and warned against leaving flammable items, including hand sanitizers, lighters and perfumes, inside vehicles because of the high temperatures.

It further called on parents and guardians to supervise children and avoid allowing them to remain under direct sunlight for prolonged periods.

The PSD also urged the public not to overload electrical outlets by operating several appliances, such as air conditioners and fans, from a single power source to help reduce the risk of fires. It advised against discarding cigarette butts along roadsides or near dry vegetation and recommended avoiding areas with dense grass that may shelter reptiles, including snakes and scorpions.

The Directorate renewed its call for the public to contact the unified emergency number 911 whenever assistance is required, adding that its personnel will continue to operate around the clock to ensure a prompt response.
