Amman, Oct.15 (Petra) – Chief of Public Security Directorate (PSD), Maj. Gen. Dr. Obaidallah Maaytah, conveyed His Majesty King Abdullah II's greetings to the staff of the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND).

Maaytah expressed His Majesty's pride in the AND's dedicated efforts and qualitative achievements in combating scourge of drugs and protecting society from its devastating dangers.

During his visit to the AND headquarters on Wednesday and meeting with its director and staff, Maaytah said the PSD "prioritizes the fight against drugs and is working to harness all capabilities to enhance field and intelligence efforts, aimed at eliminating the sources of this phenomenon and drying up its sources." Maaytah attributed the "tangible successes" during the past period to the "high" coordination among the security agencies and the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, valuing the level of cooperation and partnership in confronting cross-border drug smuggling and trafficking networks.

Maaytah affirmed these efforts are continuing against drugs, which target national security and societal stability.

On future vision, he directed continuation of "intensive" security crackdown against drug dealers and traffickers across the Kingdom, with "full force and determination to strike smugglers' hideouts and thwart their criminal schemes." Calling for intensifying the AND's awareness-raising and educational efforts, alongside field work, he noted prevention represents the "first line of defense against this phenomenon." Citizen engagement in raising awareness is a "key" pillar for building a deterrent societal awareness of the dangers of drugs, he pointed out.

Maaytah praised the distinguished efforts made by the AND's Addiction Treatment Center in caring for and rehabilitating victims of drug abuse, within a "safe and confidential" therapeutic environment that preserves their right to recovery and return to normal life, which has made the facility "a national model" that encourages treatment without hesitation or fear.

Maaytah also commended the "tangible progress" within the National Strategy to Prevent Drug Abuse (2024–2026), launched by the PSD in implementation of Royal directives, aimed to enhancing national partnership and integrating efforts to protect society and safeguard its security.
