PSD Dismantles Drug Network in Amman

Amman, May 3 (Petra) --Public Security Directorate (PSD) said a special Anti-Narcotics Department team dismantled a drug-trafficking network in Amman after a three-week investigation into suspects and repeat offenders allegedly promoting narcotics across the capital.

In its statement Sunday, the PSD said investigators identified 9 members of the network, including 3 women allegedly used for diversion purposes, and tracked their use of multiple vehicles and residential apartments to conceal their activities.

Security teams raided the suspects simultaneously at their locations and inside their vehicles, arresting all nine after some resisted arrest.

During the crackdown, authorities seized 1 kilogram of crystal meth, three blocks of hashish, thousands of narcotic pills, and additional quantities prepared for sale. The suspects were referred to the State Security Court prosecutor general.

In Azraq District, authorities intercepted a cross-border balloon carrying 97,000 narcotic pills and launched an investigation to identify its intended recipient.

At Queen Alia International Airport, officials found five gallons of the narcotic substance GBL inside a parcel arriving from a foreign country. The intended recipient was identified and arrested.

In Madaba, police arrested two suspects, one described as armed, dangerous and among the governorate’s most serious drug dealers, and seized 3 kilograms of marijuana and 1 kilogram of crystal meth.

In Irbid, security forces arrested two drug dealers and seized five blocks of hashish and 1,000 narcotic pills.

At Mudawara Border Crossing, authorities arrested a cargo truck driver who allegedly concealed 14,000 narcotic pills in a secret compartment to smuggle them to a neighboring country.
