Amman, June 3 (Petra) – The Ministry of Public Works and Housing announced the launch of a JD2 million road rehabilitation and traffic safety project covering several major roads in the central region, with implementation scheduled over 180 days and field work set to begin Thursday.

According to a ministry statement, the project includes asphalt resurfacing, traffic safety upgrades, and maintenance of water infrastructure and stormwater drainage systems along several key road corridors.

The first phase will target Muwaqqar Road, specifically the stretch extending from the Training City area to the Faisaliyah intersection. Subsequent phases will cover Airport Road, particularly the section from al-Zaytoonah University toward Queen Alia International Airport, in addition to the Salt Ring Road (60th Street) and the Peace Road leading to the Dead Sea.

The ministry said the project encompasses a broad range of engineering works, including rehabilitation of deteriorated pavement, treatment of road subsidence, asphalt resurfacing, excavation and backfilling in designated locations, and the renewal of road markings and traffic safety features in accordance with international engineering standards.

To maintain traffic flow and reduce congestion during implementation, the ministry, in coordination with the Central Traffic Department and the Highway Patrol, has adopted a phased work plan based on segmenting construction zones. Work areas will be separated by temporary barriers, allowing maintenance activities to proceed on one lane while the adjacent lane remains open to traffic.

Upon completion of works on the first lane, traffic will be diverted to the rehabilitated section while work continues on the opposite lane.

The ministry added that all project sites have been equipped with the necessary temporary traffic diversions, warning signs, directional signage, and public safety measures to ensure the safety of motorists and workers.

It urged road users to exercise caution, adhere to traffic regulations, and follow the instructions of field personnel, Public Security Directorate officers, and engineering teams supervising and implementing the project.
