Amman, Jan. 9 (Petra)-- Minister of Public Works and Housing Maher Abu Al-Samen stressed the importance of strengthening coordination with all relevant official bodies and concerned agencies to effectively respond to the weather conditions currently affecting the Kingdom.
During an inspection visit on Friday to the Ministry’s main operations room, attended by Secretary General for Technical Affairs Jamal Qutaishat, Abu Al-Samen commended the high level of performance demonstrated by the Ministry’s teams and staff during the weather conditions associated with the ongoing low-pressure system.
He emphasized that early preparedness, logistical readiness, and continuous training programs played a key role in proving the efficiency and effectiveness of the emergency plan adopted for the current winter season.
Abu Al-Samen noted that the Ministry has been operating under the medium-level emergency plan during the recent weather system, with field teams and machinery deployed across all regions of the Kingdom in line with the nature of each governorate and the volume of reported incidents.
He explained that Ministry personnel responded to dozens of reports and observations submitted by citizens, most of which related to rising water levels in certain locations and the accumulation of soil and rocks on several roads.
The Minister added that preparations for the rainy season began at the end of the previous season, through identifying and classifying reported issues and pinpointing recurring hotspots. Most of these sites were addressed during the summer months.
He further stated that the Ministry carried out extensive cleaning of flood channels and valleys, and equipped its directorates with the necessary tools and supplies to deal with weather-related challenges. In this regard, 110 field teams were mobilized, supported by 135 government-owned vehicles and 191 vehicles provided by private-sector partners.
