Amman, Jan 12 (Petra) – The Ministry of Public Works and Housing said on Monday it is activating a medium-level emergency plan, effective this evening until the end of a low-pressure system, bringing cold, storms, downpours and potential flash floods.

"The emergency is made in light of a weather system, accompanied by heavy rain and the potential of flash floods in several areas," the Ministry's spokesperson, Omar Maharmeh, told Petra in an interview.

The emergency plan could be moved to higher readiness levels based on real-time assessments by field public works personnel, and in accordance with developments in the weather situation, he said.

He urged commitment to full-time work during the emergency, and asked field office directors and crews to carry out regular inspections of roads, culverts, and waterways, and ensure public safety and a smooth traffic flow.

The spokesman stressed the need to promptly respond to incoming reports and provide the ministry's main operations room with observations or emergencies that need to be handled.
