Public Works Ministry Completes 32 Projects in First Half of 2026

Public Works Ministry Completes 32 Projects in First Half of 2026

Amman, July 7 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Public Works and Housing completed 32 projects in the roads and buildings sectors during the first half of 2026, while work continues on 70 projects and tenders across the Kingdom.

Ministry spokesperson Omar Maharmeh told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that completed projects in the buildings sector were valued at JD41.9 million, while 62 projects with a combined value of nearly JD231.7 million are currently under implementation. The ministry is also continuing work on eight road maintenance and rehabilitation tenders.

Maharmeh said the Directorate of Road and Bridge Maintenance and the ministry's regional directorates completed 10 road maintenance and rehabilitation projects during the first half of the year.

The completed works included maintenance and rehabilitation of key roads in Irbid, Balqa, Mafraq, Ajloun, Aqaba, Karak and Amman, in addition to maintenance of major roads in the Central Region, repairs to Highway 90 in Aqaba, protective works along the Wadi Numeira and Wadi Araba roads in Karak, construction of pedestrian crossings, road widening, intersection upgrades, landslide mitigation works and the installation of box culverts.

The ministry is currently implementing eight additional tenders covering landslide mitigation on the Madaba-Mujib Road, maintenance of the road leading to the Iron Tunnel in Aqaba, rehabilitation of sections of the Baghdad International Highway in Mafraq, completion of the expansion of the Kufranjah-Wadi Al-Tawaheen Road in Ajloun, as well as asphalt maintenance programs, road protection works, stormwater drainage projects in the northern and central regions, the supply of precast concrete elements and the construction of dedicated pedestrian and cycling lanes along Airport Road in Amman.

In the buildings sector, the ministry completed 22 projects valued at JD41.9 million, including 15 education projects worth JD34.1 million, one healthcare project valued at JD3.5 million and six government building projects worth JD4.2 million.

Maharmeh said the ministry is implementing 62 building projects with a total value of approximately JD231.7 million, including 31 education projects worth JD91 million, 13 healthcare projects valued at JD100.2 million and 18 government building projects worth JD40.5 million.

He added that the ministry completed the design and tender documentation for 43 projects with a total value of JD116.4 million and referred them for procurement procedures. It also finalized studies for eight projects worth JD14.8 million and delivered them to the respective beneficiary entities.

A further 97 projects, with an estimated value of nearly JD311 million, are currently under study and are scheduled to be tendered before the end of the year.
