Rain, Dust Warnings as Unstable Weather Sweeps Kingdom

Amman, April 1 (Petra) -- Unstable weather conditions are taking hold across Jordan on Wednesday, bringing rainfall, dust, and warnings of reduced visibility and flash flooding risks, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department.

Cloud cover is expected to build gradually throughout the day, with skies turning increasingly overcast as medium- and high-level clouds spread across the Kingdom. Light, scattered showers are likely during daylight hours, before conditions intensify later in the evening.

Rainfall is forecast to expand overnight, with heavier downpours possible for short periods in parts of western Jordan, occasionally accompanied by thunder. Winds will be southeasterly and moderate, becoming active at intervals and raising dust, particularly in southern and eastern regions.

The Meteorological Department warned of the risk of flash floods forming in valleys and low-lying areas during the evening and nighttime hours, including in the Dead Sea region. It also cautioned against reduced horizontal visibility due to dust, especially in desert areas, in addition to slippery road conditions in locations experiencing rainfall.

Unsettled conditions are expected to persist into Thursday, with partly to mostly cloudy skies and intermittent rainfall, particularly across western parts of the Kingdom. Thunderstorms remain possible in some areas, while rainfall is expected to ease gradually after the afternoon. Winds will shift southwesterly, blowing at moderate to occasionally strong speeds, with gusts likely to stir dust, especially in the Badia.

A slight drop in temperatures is forecast for Friday, bringing relatively cooler conditions across most regions, while warmer weather continues in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba. Skies will remain partly to mostly cloudy, with a chance of light morning showers in limited southwestern areas. Winds will turn northwesterly and remain moderate, becoming active at times.

Temperatures are expected to decline further on Saturday, with relatively cool conditions prevailing across most regions, while low-lying areas remain comparatively warmer. Winds will stay northwesterly and moderate, with occasional activity.

Temperature ranges on Wednesday reflect regional variation, with East Amman forecast between 20 C and 11 C, and West Amman between 19 C and 9 C. Northern highlands will see 18 C to 10 C, while the Sharah highlands range between 17 C and 8 C.

In the Badia, temperatures are expected between 23 C and 10 C, and in the plains between 21 C and 13 C. The northern Jordan Valley is forecast at 27 C to 16 C, rising to 29 C to 18 C in the southern valley. The Dead Sea will record 28 C to 16 C, while Aqaba reaches 30 C to 17 C.
