Amman, Feb. 24 (Petra) -- Intermittent rainfall and relatively cold weather are forecast to affect much of the country through Friday, with additional showers and strong winds expected later in the week, the Jordan Meteorological Department said.
On Tuesday, skies are expected to remain partly cloudy to overcast, with showers forecast at intervals across northern and central regions and extending to parts of the southwestern areas.
Rainfall may be moderate to heavy for brief periods in limited southwestern locations during the morning hours before easing by evening. Northwesterly winds are expected to blow at moderate to active speeds.
The department warned of reduced visibility due to fog and low clouds over mountainous and some plain areas, as well as blowing dust in desert regions. A weak risk of flash flooding remains possible in limited southwestern areas and near the Dead Sea, while motorists were advised to exercise caution on rain-slick roads.
A slight rise in temperatures is forecast on Wednesday, although relatively cold conditions are expected to continue across most regions, with milder weather prevailing in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba. Low-level cloud cover is forecast under moderate westerly winds.
Another change is expected on Thursday as a weak extension of a low-pressure system centered northeast of Syria begins to affect the country. Showers are forecast in northern areas, spreading to central regions by afternoon.
A slight chance of light rain remains possible in limited southwestern areas during the evening. Northwesterly winds are expected to strengthen, with gusts exceeding 60 km/h in some areas and raising dust in the Badia.
Temperatures are forecast to decline slightly again on Friday, maintaining relatively cold conditions. Light morning showers are possible in limited central and southwestern areas, accompanied by moderate to active northwesterly winds that may raise dust in desert regions.
For Tuesday, temperatures in eastern Amman are expected to range between 14 C and 6 C, compared with 12 C and 4 C in western Amman. The northern highlands are forecast to record between 10 C and 4 C, while the Sharah highlands will range from 10 C to 3 C. Aqaba is expected to see highs of 22 C and lows of 13 C.
