Amman, Feb. 25 (Petra) -- A weak low-pressure system is forecast to move across the country from Thursday, bringing rain, stronger winds and a renewed spell of cold weather, the Jordan Meteorological Department said.

Conditions on Wednesday are expected to remain relatively cold across most regions, while low-lying areas, including the Badia, the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba, are expected to see comparatively milder weather. Low cloud cover is forecast over northern and central regions under moderate westerly winds.

The weather is expected to turn more unsettled early Thursday as cloud cover thickens with the approach of the system, which is centered northeast of Syria. Showers are forecast to begin in northern regions before extending as light rain to central areas and parts of the southwest. Westerly to northwesterly winds are expected to strengthen to 40–50 km/h, with gusts exceeding 60 km/h in some areas, raising dust particularly across Badia regions.

Relatively cold conditions are expected to persist on Friday, with low clouds and a chance of light rain in limited parts of the north, center and southwestern regions during the morning hours. Northwesterly winds are forecast to remain moderate to active.

A slight rise in temperatures is expected on Saturday, although cold weather will continue across most regions, while low-lying areas remain relatively milder under partly cloudy skies and light northwesterly winds.

For Wednesday, temperatures in eastern Amman are expected to range between 15 C and 8 C, compared with 13 C and 6 C in western Amman. The northern highlands are forecast to record between 11 C and 4 C, while the Sharah highlands will range from 10 C to 3 C.

In the Badia, daytime temperatures are expected to reach 20 C before dropping to 8 C at night, while plains areas will see readings between 17 C and 7 C. Low-lying areas will remain warmer, with temperatures expected to range between 21 C and 8 C in the northern Jordan Valley and 25 C and 15 C in the south.
