Karak, Feb 23 (Petra) - The holy month of Ramadan in Karak brings about a unique social and religious atmosphere, highlighting its significance in the lives of citizens. During this time, lifestyles adapt, and customs evolve, all in tune with the spirituality and special ambiance of the month.

Residents across various districts of the governorate expressed their joy at the arrival of the holy month by decorating streets, shop entrances and homes with Ramadan lanterns, which have become an integral part of Ramadan traditions, reflecting a spirit of Ramadan blended with joy and happiness that people have grown accustomed to across generations.

Researcher in folk heritage Fayez Thnaibat said that the joy of Ramadan in Jordanian popular memory stems from its deep religious dimension, as fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam. He noted that this distinguished religious status has given Ramadan a special presence in collective consciousness and made it closely connected to people’s daily lives and social and cultural traditions.

Sharia researcher Rami Al-Assasfeh said that one of the Ramadan customs in Jordan is decorating mosques and minarets with lights and bright illumination in celebration of the month of worship and night prayers, as mosques are filled with worshippers and prepared to appear in their best form during the holy month.

In the town of Zahoum in central Karak, fifty-year-old Ahmed Al-Aghawat spoke about how decoration displays in markets and homes reflect the sacredness of Ramadan. He noted that this year, there has been a greater interest in hanging decorations as a way to express joy at the arrival of the holy month.

He emphasized that Ramadan holds a significant and unique place in memory, symbolizing an extraordinary season on both religious and social levels, where spiritual values and community traditions come together.

From the Southern Jordan Valley district, Azzam Al-Khatba said that Ramadan carries a special spiritual significance and involves the practice of Ramadan rituals.

Forty-year-old Maha Al-Aghawat shared that her greatest joy during Ramadan comes from the preparations associated with the holy month. She loves shopping for supplies and preparing meals, which culminate in the happiness of gathering family members around the iftar table. It is during this time that laughter and warmth fill the joyful atmosphere of the family.
