Amman, May 15 (Petra)-- Director of Public Security Department Major General Obeidallah Al-Maaytah visited the headquarters of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), where he signed an agreement for the Royal Police Academy to join the Interpol Global Academies Network.
The agreement was signed by Major General Al-Maaytah and Interpol Secretary General Valdecy Urquiza in a step reflecting international confidence in the training and academic institutions affiliated with Jordan’s Public Security Directorate and their professional competence.
The move also strengthens Jordan’s presence as an active partner in advancing joint international police and security cooperation.
During the visit, Major General Al-Maaytah also met with Interpol President Ahmed Lucas Philippe, where discussions focused on enhancing security cooperation and coordination, as well as expanding security and training partnerships to support international efforts in addressing contemporary security challenges and threats.
In remarks delivered during the meetings, Al-Maaytah stressed that the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, continues to strengthen its active role within Interpol and deepen cooperation with member states, based on the belief that security is a collective responsibility requiring effective institutional partnerships capable of confronting growing security threats and challenges.
He described Jordan’s relationship with Interpol as a strategic partnership that contributes to improving police and security performance, noting that the rapid evolution of transnational organized crime requires greater international coordination, information-sharing, and integrated efforts to combat emerging crimes and modern security threats.
Al-Maaytah added that the Public Security Directorate has placed significant emphasis on upgrading technological systems and enhancing the capabilities of its personnel to effectively address emerging crimes, particularly cybercrime, money laundering, electronic fraud, and human and drug trafficking.
He noted that cooperation with Interpol has supported Jordanian security agencies through access to international databases, secure police communication systems, as well as training and capacity-building programs.
The Public Security Director also held a series of specialized meetings with senior officials and executive directors at Interpol to discuss mechanisms for developing joint police work and expanding the exchange of expertise and information.
