Amman, April 8 (Petra) – Saudi Arabia has confirmed Jordanian trucks will benefit from the decision to extend the operational age to 22 years for a 6-month period, as part of efforts to strengthen Jordanian-Saudi cooperation.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Transport on Wednesday, this step came during a meeting that brought together the Ministry's Secretary-General, Fares Abu Dayyeh, and the Vice Chairman for the Land Transport Sector at the Saudi Transport General Authority (TGA), Abdulmajeed Al-Tassan, with the participation of the two sides' relevant officials.
The discussions aimed to follow up on the progress of work in the bilateral land transport sector amid the region's current situation and ensure continuity and smooth flow of freight and trade operations.
During the meeting, which was held virtually, the ministry indicated that the two sides agreeed to continue joint coordination and cooperation to overcome any challenges that may face the transport sector, ensure sustainability of operations, develop services, and strengthen the two countries' economic relations.
The ministry said the decision will "positively" impact the two countries' land transport sector, support transport companies and reduce operational burdens.
The move will also enhance "efficiency" of the fleet operating on international routes, facilitate movement of goods, and achieve "greater flexibility" in logistical operations.
