Amman, Feb. 15 (Petra) -- Chair of the Senate's Arab, International and Expatriates Affairs Committee Hani Mulki met on Sunday with Hungarian Ambassador to Jordan Peter Jakab to discuss ties and regional developments.
Mulki said Jordan values its strong and longstanding relations with Hungary as a model of constructive cooperation supported by His Majesty Abdullah II and Hungarian President Tamas Sulyok.
He said coordination and communication between the two sides are ongoing to strengthen relations and advance shared interests.
Mulki called for serious and constructive dialogue to achieve peace and stability in the region.
He described Hungary as a key European partner with a strong reputation and solid relations with countries in the region.
Responding to the ambassador's inquiry about the situation in the region, Mulki expressed concern over developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, citing violations, settler attacks and settlement expansion under Israeli protection, which he said undermine prospects for peace and increase regional interference driven by competing agendas.
He said Jordan supports a just and comprehensive peace, referencing the 1994 peace treaty and continued efforts by King Abdullah II in international forums to advance a two-state solution.
He said Jordan supports the Arab Peace Initiative launched by Saudi Arabia.
Mulki warned that a lack of seriousness in advancing peace has opened the door to regional meddling that exploit instability and the Palestinian issue for political gain.
He called for working with Hungary to promote economic development and deepen cooperation in the interest of both peoples.
Mulki said Jordan rejects the forced displacement of Palestinians and of any solutions that fail to meet legitimate Palestinian rights.
He said the role of U.S. President Donald Trump is important and influential, expressing hope that diplomatic efforts will contribute to regional stability.
Jakab, in turn, praised King Abdullah II's efforts to promote peace and international legitimacy. He said Hungary looks forward to enhancing bilateral coordination at various levels.
He added that the meeting aimed to exchange views on regional developments and the humanitarian situation in the occupied West Bank and Gaza, describing Jordan as a strategic partner and a pillar of stability and balance in the region.
