Amman, Jan 7 (Petra) - Adverse weather conditions on Wednesday caused widespread disruption to transport across parts of Europe, with hundreds of flights canceled and many passengers stranded due to snow, frost and strong winds.

France’s meteorological service warned of snowfall extending across the northern half of the country, as heavy snow hit Paris in the morning hours, while authorities forecast that southern Britain would be the hardest hit on Thursday and Friday.

Britain’s Met Office said ice warnings would remain in place in Scotland and would be lifted later in the day across most of England and Wales.

Paris and Amsterdam airports were the worst affected, with Dutch authorities saying more than 1,000 passengers were forced to spend the night at Schiphol Airport, one of Europe’s busiest hubs.

French Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot said around 140 flights were canceled Wednesday morning from Paris airports due to snowfall, noting that about 100 flights were canceled at Charles de Gaulle Airport and 40 at Orly Airport.
