Amman, April 5 (Petra) -- The Jordan Silos and Supply General Company on Sunday announced a series of incentive discounts of up to 40% on storage fees for essential goods, part of a national strategy to strengthen the kingdom’s strategic food reserves.
The discount applies to all warehouse tenants who currently hold no prior rental reductions or those whose existing discounts are below the new threshold. The policy took effect at the start of April and will run until the end of May, the company said in a statement.
Management stated that the move aims to incentivize importers to increase the volume of essential commodities brought into the country during this window. By offering reduced storage costs and logistical facilities, the company seeks to ensure that local market needs are met with a secure surplus.
"This step is part of a proactive policy to strengthen the strategic stockpile of food items and guarantee their availability in safe quantities," the company statement said. It added that lower storage overheads should translate into a more stable supply chain and consistent pricing for consumers.
The state-owned firm emphasized its ongoing efforts to upgrade logistics and expand storage capacity to support national food security goals. It also highlighted the importance of partnering with the private sector to safeguard the country against regional or international supply chain disruptions.
The decision aligns with broader government directives to maintain the readiness of the national stock of provisions amid volatile global trade dynamics.
