Amman, March 2 (Petra) - Minister of Social Development Wafa Bani Mustafa attended on Monday an Iftar banquet organized by the Society for Protecting Family Violence Victims for residents of the Girls' Care Home in Russeifa.
The event is part of a series of Ramadan activities for beneficiaries of protection, care, and shelter homes affiliated with the ministry.
Speaking at the ceremony, attended by the society's honorary president, Reem Abu Hassan, and social protection officials, Bani Mustafa said the gathering during the holy month of Ramadan embodies values of mercy and solidarity. She added that it reflects the Jordanian community’s ability to embrace its citizens and provide them with a new opportunity for a dignified and safe life.
The minister praised the society's efforts in supporting survivors of violence and defending their right to safety and dignity. She stated that the ministry bears a direct national responsibility in the domestic violence protection file, viewing care homes as institutions for empowerment, capacity building, and rehabilitation rather than merely shelters.
Bani Mustafa said the ministry operates according to an integrated system based on immediate social protection, specialized psychological support, family counseling, and rehabilitation, leading to safe and sustainable community integration.
The ministry has developed legislation and policies governing protection and enhanced the efficiency of staff in care homes to ensure a stimulating environment that restores self-confidence and provides girls with necessary future skills, she added.
The minister noted that efforts extend beyond treating the effects of violence to addressing its root causes through national awareness programs and partnerships with civil society organizations.
The ceremony included segments prepared by the residents and the distribution of gifts. The minister also toured an exhibition of products manufactured by the girls held on the sidelines of the Iftar.
