Amman, Jan. 13 (Petra) Minister of Social Development Wafaa Bani Mustafa Tuesday met with United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Jorge Moreira da Silva to talk cooperation in the social sector.

Bani Mustafa discussed the the partnership between the ministry and UNOPS in supporting social programmes targeting the ministry's beneficiary groups and in strengthening Jordan's social protection system.

She noted efforts to promote the economic empowerment of families benefiting from the National Aid Fund (NAF), calling for training and qualifying family members in vocational fields.

These efforts, she said, help beneficiaries enter the labour market, improve household economic conditions and transition from reliance on assistance to work and productivity.

The minister praised the effective cooperation between the two sides, citing the implementation of the Social Protection Environment Modernisation Project, which aligns with the priorities of the National Social Protection Strategy and contributes to enhancing ministry services and improving the quality and performance of the social protection system.

During the meeting, Bani Mustafa discussed prospects for future cooperation, including the implementation of the Social Inclusion Support Programme for all in Jordan, the establishment of inclusive day-care centres to provide comprehensive services for persons with disabilities and the professionalisation of social work.

Da Silva, in turn, discussede the social programmes and services implemented by the ministry and expressed hope for strengthening cooperation and expanding partnership opportunities in the future.
