Social Development Ministry reports rise in aid recipients, anti-vagrancy measures in March

Amman, April 18 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Social Development released its performance report for March on Saturday, detailing a wide range of social services provided to citizens, including health insurance processing, child welfare interventions, and extensive financial aid distribution.

According to official data, the ministry processed 3,620 applications for health insurance cards and 170 requests for medical expense exemptions during the month. Additionally, the ministry handled 141 inheritance-rights settlements and 1,156 transactions related to work-permit fee exemptions.

In the field of child welfare, 30 children were admitted to residential care centers while 39 were discharged. The ministry confirmed that eight children were placed with alternative families, and four new nurseries were licensed to operate.

The report also highlighted the ministry’s role in protection and rehabilitation. Social service offices within the Family and Juvenile Protection Department handled 186 cases involving women and children. Meanwhile, 188 juveniles received services at the ministry’s vocational training and rehabilitation centers, with 84 participating in specialized professional programs. Case management methodology was applied to provide psychological and social interventions for 23 cases of child labor, and social service offices within correctional and rehabilitation centers assisted 889 individuals.

Regarding the non-governmental sector, the ministry noted that there are currently 6,008 active associations registered under the prevailing law. March saw the registration of 18 new associations, while 22 were dissolved and two received formal warnings for regulatory violations.

The ministry’s anti-vagrancy division intensified its enforcement operations in March, conducting 583 inspections that resulted in the detention of 982 individuals.

Data from the National Aid Fund showed that 41,925 families benefited from the monthly financial assistance program, while the Unified Cash Support program reached 206,533 households. The fund also reported that 70 families were enrolled in vocational training programs and maintained a 100% response rate to public inquiries and communications throughout the month.
