Amman, May 5 (Petra) -- A national initiative aimed at promoting economic awareness and financial literacy was announced on Tuesday, with the Amman Stock Exchange and CFI Jordan throwing their support behind a program designed to strengthen investment culture across the kingdom.
The "Your Financial Compass" initiative, implemented by the Al-Dustour Centre for Economic Studies with backing from CFI Jordan, was unveiled at a press conference attended by Mazen Al-Wathaifi, chief executive of the Amman Stock Exchange, Luay Azzar, chief executive of CFI Jordan, and Awni Al-Dawood, president of the Al-Dustour Centre for Economic Studies.
The program, which begins its activities during May, is designed to entrench financial culture and enhance public understanding of economic and investment concepts. It relies on specialized content developed in collaboration with economic experts and will be rolled out across governorates through partnerships with universities, youth organizations and women's groups. The initiative employs an interactive, dialogue-based approach intended to foster deeper financial awareness that translates into better economic and financial decision-making at the societal level.
Al-Wathaifi said the financial literacy initiative represents integrated national efforts targeting all governorates, with a particular focus on women, young people and journalists. He said this focus would help establish sound financial concepts and strengthen the investment culture within society.
He noted that the Amman Stock Exchange, in its capacity as a barometer of the national economy, does not limit its role to organizing and managing trading or developing the market. Its responsibilities also include promoting investment culture and raising investor knowledge as part of ongoing engagement with the local community in which financial awareness constitutes a central pillar of its strategy.
In this context, the exchange has launched several initiatives, most notably the "Investor Culture" section on its website, which provides educational materials about the market and the fundamentals of investment and trading, alongside the organization of virtual seminars that help participants better understand market mechanisms.
For his part, Azzar said CFI Jordan's support for "Your Financial Compass" extends the company's long-standing commitment to promoting financial culture and empowering individuals through knowledge. He said CFI has continued to translate this commitment through various initiatives, awareness content and purposeful partnerships.
He added that the expansion of investment opportunities in the Jordanian market today comes with a parallel challenge: the proliferation of information sources and the variance in their accuracy. This, he said, makes financial knowledge a genuine foundation for responsible decision-making. He noted that the initiative forms part of a broader national effort aimed at entrenching a more aware and mature economic culture across the kingdom, particularly among young people and women.
Al-Dawood said the program is a national initiative par excellence, aimed at spreading economic awareness and culture throughout Jordanian society across all segments and governorates, with the youth and women's sectors as its primary targets.
He said the national program will cover all of the kingdom's governorates, in cooperation with universities, women's unions, and youth sectors in each region.
He noted that the program, whose themes were prepared by economic experts, will focus on a set of economic axes. These include strengthening financial culture, clarifying basic economic concepts and indicators, raising awareness about trading mechanisms, addressing the differences between trading and investment, and providing guidance on money management and making informed decisions. This, he said, would contribute to achieving better results and reducing risks.
Al-Dawood said the program, which is being implemented by the Al-Dustour Centre for Economic Studies with support from CFI Jordan, will be carried out in partnership with national media outlets and with the participation of a select group of economic experts and financial journalists. He revealed that the initiative will launch in Ajloun governorate on May 11, followed by sessions in Jerash governorate on May 20, before expanding to the remaining governorates.
