Amman, May 4 (Petra) -- Temperatures are set to drop noticeably across the Kingdom on Monday as a relatively cold and moist air mass takes hold, bringing cooler conditions and intermittent rainfall, particularly in northern regions.
The Jordan Meteorological Department said the shift marks a clear break from the recent warmer spell, with relatively cold conditions now prevailing across most areas, while the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba remain comparatively warmer. Skies are partly to mostly cloudy, with light to moderate rain showers expected at intervals in the north and limited parts of central regions.
Westerly winds are active across the Kingdom, with strong gusts at times stirring dust, especially in the Badia, adding to already challenging weather conditions.
In its report, the department warned of reduced horizontal visibility during early morning hours due to fog over high mountainous areas. It also cautioned that dust could significantly reduce visibility, particularly in the Badia, where it may occasionally reach near-zero levels on desert roads.
Additional warnings included strong wind gusts and the risk of slippery roads in areas experiencing rainfall, with authorities urging caution, especially for drivers and individuals with respiratory conditions.
The cooler pattern is expected to persist into Tuesday, with relatively cold conditions continuing across most regions. Low clouds will remain present, with a renewed chance of light rain in parts of the north and central areas. Winds will shift to northwesterly, moderate in speed, becoming active at times.
Conditions are expected to gradually stabilize from Wednesday, with a slight rise in temperatures bringing mild weather to most regions and warmer conditions in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba.
A more pronounced warming trend is forecast on Thursday, with temperatures returning to seasonal averages. The weather will be moderate in most regions and relatively hot in lower elevations, accompanied by southeasterly moderate winds.
Temperatures on Monday are expected to range between 19 C and 10 C in East Amman, and 17 C and 8 C in West Amman. The northern highlands will record 15 C and 8 C, while the Sharah highlands will see 16 C and 7 C.
In the Badia, temperatures will range between 24 C and 11 C, and in the plains between 20 C and 10 C. The northern Jordan Valley will record 27 C and 13 C, the southern Jordan Valley 30 C and 15 C, the Dead Sea 28 C and 14 C, and the Gulf of Aqaba 29 C and 15 C.
