Amman, Mar. 18 (Petra) – Three members of the Public Security Directorate (PSD) were killed on Wednesday morning during a high-risk tactical operation targeting a dangerous narcotics suspect in the eastern districts of the capital.

The PSD media spokesperson reported that a specialized unit from the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) executed the raid early Wednesday. Upon the arrival of the security forces, the suspect immediately initiated direct gunfire toward the officers. The exchange of fire resulted in the deaths of First Lieutenant Murad Masoud Al-Mawajdeh, Sergeant Khaldon Ahmed Al-Raqab, and Corporal Sobhi Mohammed Dweikat. A fourth non-commissioned officer sustained injuries and was evacuated to a nearby hospital, where he remains under medical supervision.

Despite the initial volatility of the engagement, the security force successfully neutralized the threat by returning fire, subsequently subduing and apprehending the suspect. Following the arrest, authorities seized an inventory of illicit items at the scene, including three firearms, a quantity of narcotic pills, three slabs of hashish, and significant amounts of crystal meth and marijuana.

In a statement, the Public Security Directorate mourned the loss of the three martyrs of the homeland, extending its deepest condolences and sympathies to their families and colleagues. The Directorate reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to maintaining public order and safety, emphasizing that it remains resolute in its mission to dismantle drug trafficking networks and prevent the distribution of narcotics within Jordanian society.

The PSD underscored that the sacrifices made by its personnel reflect a dedicated resolve to protect the nation, concluding that the department will continue to pursue all individuals attempting to undermine national security through the promotion of illegal substances.
