Petra, July 9 (Petra) - High-ranking tourism and aviation officials met at the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) on Thursday to outline plans to revitalize Jordan's Golden Triangle and better integrate Petra, Aqaba and Wadi Rum to revive tourism traffic and support the national economy.

Talking at the meeting, Emad Hijazin, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, stated discussions focused on 4 core pillars, aimed to achieve governance, air and land transport connectivity, integrate local communities into tourism products, and launch unified marketing campaigns.

Hijazin said these efforts coincide with a plan by Royal Jordanian (RJ) to connect the triangle directly with primary source travel markets, which would enhance the Kingdom's "competitive" edge.

To support the initiative, new regional and international flights are set to launch out of Aqaba’s King Hussein International Airport starting this September, according to Shadi Majali, Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority's (ASEZA) Chairman.

Adnan Sawair, PDTRA's Chairman, described the Golden Triangle as a "strategic" national project that will strengthen the economy and benefit local communities through joint initiatives in marketing, transportation, tourism products, and events. He said the partnership aims to improve the visitor experience, encourage longer stays, and increase tourism spending.
