Amman, Feb. 1 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply handled 16 trade-defense cases related to national exports last year, including safeguard measures and anti-dumping proceedings, as part of efforts to counter unfair trade practices affecting domestic producers.
Ministry spokesperson Yanal Barmawi said the cases involved technical and procedural actions aimed at protecting national industry, including the imposition of safeguard measures on a safety-related product and the launch of an anti-dumping investigation into solar panel imports.
He said the ministry completed 24 specialized studies in response to complaints submitted by the industrial sector, assessing the impact of imports on local production and determining appropriate measures in accordance with national legislation and relevant international trade agreements.
As part of import regulation procedures, the ministry reviewed 267 applications for import licenses, applying mechanisms designed to balance the protection of domestic production with the needs of the local market.
Barmawi added that the Directorate for the Protection of National Production carried out an awareness campaign targeting industrial firms, during which around 40,000 SMS messages were sent to explain legislation and procedures related to trade defense, safeguard actions, and anti-dumping measures.
He said the ministry’s actions are aimed at supporting national exports, maintaining a level playing field for domestic producers, and protecting industrial investments, particularly in cases involving import surges or goods entering the market at dumped or subsidized prices.
