Amman, Oct. 13 (Petra) – The General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU), in cooperation with the International Labor Organization (ILO), held a meeting on Monday with representatives of trade unions and members of the Women’s and Youth Committees as part of the dialogue sessions for a project titled "Power of Trade Unions for a More Inclusive and Gender-Equal World of Work." In a statement, the GFJTU said the six-month project, implemented in partnership with the ILO’s Decent Work for Women Program, aims to strengthen women’s participation in trade unions and promote the integration of equality and non-discrimination principles into national labor policies.

The GFJTU Khaled Abu Marjoub underscored that equality in the workplace is not solely a women’s issue but a developmental and national priority, noting that empowering women in the labor market positively impacts families, society, and the national economy.

For her part, Director of the Decent Work for Women Program Reem Aslan highlighted the project’s role in enhancing women’s and youth’s participation in the labor market through practical measures, including social dialogue sessions with stakeholders, legal awareness workshops, and the activation of internal policies within the Federation. She stressed the key role of trade unions in advancing gender equality and ensuring fairness in the workplace.

Participants discussed the contribution of trade unions and specialized committees to the success of the project’s action plan and emphasized the importance of amplifying their voices through social dialogue. The meeting also addressed several key topics, including the care economy, maternity protection, safeguarding against workplace violence, women’s leadership empowerment, the green economy, and a just transition.
