Amman, May 31 (Petra) -- Minister of Transport, Nidal Katamine, on Sunday visited the Jordan Maritime Commission (JMC) and the Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC)'s branch office in the governorate of Aqaba to review operations, milestones, and challenges, the ministry said in a statement.
The visit aimed to assess development plans designed to boost the efficiency of the national transport network and upgrade public services, the statement added.
During his tour, Katamine emphasized the vital role transport institutions play in supporting the national economy and strengthening Jordan's competitiveness as a regional logistics hub. He stressed the need to pursue ongoing modernization efforts in alignment with the goals of the country’s Economic Modernization Vision.
At the JMC, the minister reviewed key development projects and programs, praising efforts that have advanced maritime operations and corporate performance. Katamine also honored Omar Al-Dabbas upon the conclusion of his tenure as the commission's director general, commending his contributions to the development of the maritime sector and to elevating the commission’s national and regional standing.
During his visit to the LTRC office, the minister examined the main challenges facing public transport in the region. He was briefed on achievements and plans to upgrade services, enhance existing routes, and introduce new ones to meet the needs of residents and visitors.
Katamine met with several service users and transport operators to discuss their demands and asked officials to review and address them through the approved channels.
The minister stressed the importance of strengthening coordination and integration among various stakeholders to establish Aqaba as a leading model for public transport that could be replicated across other Jordanian governorates.
He underscored the ministry's commitment to automating public transport services by deploying surveillance camera networks, electronic vehicle tracking systems, and electronic payment gateways to improve efficiency, quality, and safety.
