Amman, May 13 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Transport has intensified efforts to improve cargo and transit movement at the Karameh-Trebil border crossing with Iraq amid growing trade activity between the two countries.
The ministry and the Land Transport Regulatory Commission carried out a field visit to the border center through the Transport and Trade Facilitation Committee, which includes representatives from government institutions and private sector logistics bodies.
According to a ministry statement issued Wednesday, the visit focused on assessing operational movement, logistics services and infrastructure readiness to accommodate increasing cargo transport, trade exchange and transit traffic along the Jordan-Iraq corridor.
The delegation reviewed operational yards, modern inspection systems, commercial exchange facilities and the newly established cargo passport building, which consolidates logistics services under one roof.
Representatives from the Customs Clearance and Cargo Transport Companies Association, the Jordanian Truck Owners Association, the Jordan Logistics Association and the Jordan Navigation Syndicate participated in the tour alongside officials from the Ministry of Interior and other concerned entities.
Participants discussed operational challenges affecting cargo movement and examined practical measures aimed at accelerating procedures and improving the flow of trucks and goods through the crossing.
Officials stressed the need to continue upgrading infrastructure and logistics services at the border center, including expanding operational yards and supporting facilities to keep pace with rising transport and trade volumes between Jordan and Iraq.
The discussions also emphasized strengthening coordination between public institutions and private sector operators while maintaining direct cooperation with Iraqi authorities to facilitate procedures and preserve smooth transit movement.
According to the ministry, participating entities agreed to follow up on recommendations and operational observations identified during the visit within a two-week implementation timeframe.
Officials said the measures are intended to improve operational efficiency and strengthen the competitiveness of the border crossing and associated logistics services.
