Travel Agencies Warn Against Misinformation, Stress Official Channels to Shield Tourism Sector

Amman, March 3 (Petra) -- The travel and tourism agencies moved to contain the risk of misinformation affecting the sector, urging media outlets and social media users to rely strictly on official sources when reporting on tourism-related developments amid heightened regional tensions.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the Jordan Association of Travel and Tourism Agents said inaccurate or unverified information, particularly regarding booking cancellations, tourism flows or operational measures, could generate unnecessary market anxiety and damage the sector’s reputation at a critical juncture.

The association stressed that it is the officially mandated representative of travel and tourism offices in the Kingdom and should serve as the primary reference point for updates concerning the performance and operational status of travel agencies.

It noted that the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has activated an operations room to monitor the sector’s performance in light of regional developments, issuing regular data on inbound and outbound bookings, cancellation rates, and any regulatory measures introduced to address emerging challenges.

The association said it remains in close coordination with the ministry and industry stakeholders to assess the impact of developments on existing and future reservations, emphasizing that proactive communication and accurate data are essential to preserving business continuity.

Warning that misinformation could disrupt confidence and adversely affect stakeholders across the tourism value chain, the association reiterated that maintaining credibility and transparency is vital to safeguarding a sector that represents a core pillar of the national economy and a significant source of foreign-currency inflows.
