Amman, May 8 (Petra)-- U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Friday that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a three-day ceasefire in the ongoing war between the two countries, saying the pause in fighting will also include a large-scale prisoner exchange.
In a post published on his Truth Social platform, Trump said: "I am pleased to announce that there will be a 3-day ceasefire (on May 9, 10 and 11) in the war between Russia and Ukraine." Trump noted that the timing coincides with Russia’s Victory Day celebrations, adding that Ukraine also played a major role in World War II.
He said the ceasefire would involve "a suspension of all combat operations," as well as "a prisoner exchange involving 1,000 prisoners from each country." According to Trump, he made the request directly to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Trump added that negotiations aimed at ending the broader conflict are still ongoing.
