Amman, Dec. 11 (Petra) -- In a remarkable medical feat, a team at the University of Jordan Hospital has successfully treated a rare bone tumor buried deep within the femoral head, one of the most technically challenging areas to reach in orthopedic medicine.

The patient, a man in his thirties, had endured months of severe, mobility-limiting pain. Traditional surgery posed significant risks due to the tumor’s sensitive location, making the breakthrough all the more significant.

According to the hospital, the procedure was carried out in the Radiology Department by a multidisciplinary team led by Dr. Omar Al-Batoush, Consultant of Musculoskeletal Interventional Radiology; orthopedic tumor and joint reconstruction specialist Dr. Basem Haddad; and Senior Consultant of Anesthesia and Intensive Care Prof. Khaled Al-Zaben, supported by an expert technical and nursing staff.

Using CT-guided imaging, the team navigated precisely to the center of the tumor before performing thermal ablation with cutting-edge microwave technology, a minimally invasive technique increasingly used worldwide for treating bone tumors without open surgery.

Dr. Al-Batoush said the patient showed immediate and dramatic improvement the very next day, regaining mobility and experiencing a sharp reduction in pain.

Hospital Director General Dr. Nader Al-Bsoul said the success of the procedure showcases the hospital’s advanced medical capabilities and its commitment to adopting the latest technologies in patient care.
