London, March 23 (Petra) – The British Foreign Office summoned Iran's ambassador to the United Kingdom, Seyed Mousavi, on Monday following charges against two individuals accused of assisting a foreign intelligence agency.
The Foreign Office said the summons was ordered by the Foreign Secretary and carried out by Minister for the Middle East Hamish Falconer.
The action comes after an Iranian national and a dual British-Iranian citizen were charged under the National Security Act on suspicion of supporting a foreign intelligence service.
The ministry stated that national security remains a top priority, adding that it takes threats linked to Iran or its agents seriously and will take all necessary measures to protect British citizens and counter what it described as Iran's "destabilising" activities domestically and abroad.
