Amman, October 19 (Petra) -- A high-level United Nations delegation arrived in Jordan on an official visit to enhance cooperation with national partners and review the progress of UN-supported programmes and projects across the country.

In a statement issued Sunday, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) said the visiting delegation represents the Executive Board of the UNDP, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).

The visit follows the recent adoption of new four-year strategic plans by the Executive Board for the three UN organisations, reaffirming their commitment to supporting Jordan's development priorities and national agenda and to strengthening existing partnerships with the government and national institutions.

During the visit, the delegation will hold meetings with various ministries and official bodies. It will conduct field visits to Amman, Madaba, Karak, Aqaba and the Zaatari Syrian refugee camp to observe key initiatives and programmes implemented in collaboration with local community organisations.

The UNDP stated that the visit reflects the depth of the strategic partnership between Jordan and the UN's system and its role in advancing sustainable development, enhancing national resilience and promoting inclusivity in development efforts.

It provides an opportunity to assess on-the-ground achievements and exchange expertise in areas such as strategic planning and policy development.

The UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS are among the leading UN agencies operating in Jordan, supporting long-term initiatives in climate action, inclusive economic growth, health, good governance and social protection.

The Executive Board of the three organisations was established by UN General Assembly Resolution 48/162 in 1993. It comprises 36 member states and is tasked with intergovernmental oversight of the agencies' work, in accordance with the mandates of the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council.
