Amman, April 2 (Petra) -- The unemployment rate in Jordan declined to 16.1% in the fourth quarter of 2025, extending a gradual improvement in labor market conditions, according to data released by the Department of Statistics.

The rate fell from 16.9% in the same period of 2024 and edged down from 16.2% in the third quarter of 2025, reflecting a modest but continued easing in overall joblessness.

Male unemployment showed clearer gains, with the rate among Jordanian males declining to 17.2% in the fourth quarter, down by 1.0 percentage point year-on-year and 0.8 percentage point from the previous quarter.

Over a longer period, unemployment among Jordanians has decreased by 1.7 percentage points compared with the same quarter of 2022, while male unemployment has dropped by 4.2 percentage points since 2021.

At the aggregate level, unemployment among males, both Jordanians and non-Jordanians, stood at 13.8%, down by 1.4 percentage points from a year earlier, indicating stronger labor market recovery among male workers.

However, the data highlighted persistent structural disparities, particularly for women. Female unemployment among Jordanians rose to 34.8% in the fourth quarter of 2025, increasing by 2.6 percentage points compared with the same period in 2024 and by 0.9 percentage point from the previous quarter.

Among individuals aged 24 and above, unemployment among Jordanians reached 17.7%, including 13.6% for males and 31.3% for females. In contrast, unemployment among non-Jordanians in the same age group remained significantly lower at 5.6%.

Overall unemployment among Jordanians aged 15 and above stood at 21.2%, showing a slight decline from both the previous quarter and the same period a year earlier. Unemployment among non-Jordanians reached 9.2% during the reporting period.
