Amman, Nov. 13 (Petra) -- Jordan is set to experience a significant shift in weather over the next four days, as a state of atmospheric instability takes hold, bringing disruptive conditions including flash flood risks, thunder, and a sharp drop in temperatures, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) announced.
The unstable air mass will begin its gradual impact on Thursday, as temperatures will fall slightly, resulting in mild conditions with increasing cloud cover.
Intermittent rain showers are expected in scattered areas, especially in the western parts of the Kingdom, with a chance of occasional thunder. Northwesterly winds will be moderate, turning active at times and stirring up dust, particularly in the desert regions.
The JMD warns of low horizontal visibility due to the dust, and the potential for flash floods in low-lying areas, especially in the western parts of the Kingdom. Late-night hours will see further reduced visibility due to fog over the mountains and parts of the plains.
A more marked and substantial drop in temperatures is forecast for Friday. Generally unstable conditions will prevail, with skies ranging from partly to fully cloudy.
Rain showers are expected in the western regions of the Kingdom, with the possibility of the rainfall turning heavy, accompanied by thunder and hail in some areas. Winds will be active westerly, with strong gusts potentially raising significant dust in the Badia.
The unsettled weather pattern is expected to linger into Saturday, with temperatures continuing their downward trend, making the weather cooler in most areas.
Partly to occasionally cloudy skies will bring isolated rain showers to the northern and central parts of the Kingdom, with a limited chance of extending to the eastern and southwestern regions. Southwesterly winds will be moderate, occasionally stirring up dust in the desert areas.
By Sunday, temperatures will rise slightly, and the weather will become marginally cooler across most regions, with a chance of light, scattered rain in the north and central parts. Precipitation opportunities will gradually weaken during the evening hours, and the weather is anticipated to return to stability.
Temperature readings for Thursday show a high of 23 C and a low of 12 C in East Amman, and 21 C/10 C in West Amman. The northern highlands will record 20 C/10 C, and the Sharah highlands 21 C/8 C.
Desert areas will see temperatures between 26 C and 10 C, while the plains are expected to record 24 C/12 C. The northern Jordan Valley will see 31 C/17 C, compared to 30 C/19 C in the southern Jordan Valley.
Around the Dead Sea, temperatures will reach 29 C/18 C, and in the Gulf of Aqaba, 29 C/18 C.
