New York, Aug. 17 (Petra) -- Major US stock indexes declined on Monday while Texas crude oil rose by $2 to reach $84.26 per barrel.

At the close of trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 272 points, or 0.51 percent, to close at 53,459 points.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 84 points, or 0.32 percent, to 26,644 points, while the S&P 500 slipped roughly 40 points, or 0.52 percent, to finish at 7,745 points.
