Amman, Feb. 12 (Petra) -- A burst of warmer weather on Friday is expected to be accompanied by strong winds and widespread dust, with gusts reaching up to 60 km/h and visibility likely to drop sharply across several regions, the Jordan Meteorological Department said.

Thursday will remain generally sunny and relatively cool across most areas, while low-lying regions, including the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba, stay warmer. Southwesterly winds will blow at moderate speeds, becoming active at times in desert areas.

Conditions are forecast to shift more noticeably on Friday as temperatures rise to around 6–7 degrees Celsius above seasonal averages. The weather will turn mild in most regions and warm in low-lying areas, under medium- and high-level cloud cover.

By afternoon, wind speeds are expected to intensify significantly. Gusts between 50 and 60 km/h could generate dense dust in many areas, particularly along highways and open roads, leading to reduced visibility and potentially hazardous driving conditions.

Temperatures are expected to retreat again on Saturday, though dusty conditions may linger, especially in southern and eastern regions. Relatively cool weather will return to most areas, with a slight chance of light morning rain in the northern parts of the country. Westerly winds are forecast to remain active.

A modest rebound in temperatures is expected on Sunday, restoring milder conditions across most regions while low-lying areas remain warm. Southeasterly winds are expected to be moderate, occasionally strengthening in desert areas.

On Thursday, temperatures in eastern Amman are forecast to range between 17 C and 11 C, compared with 15 C and 9 C in western parts of the capital. The northern highlands are expected to record between 13 C and 7 C, while the Sharah highlands will range from 14 C to 8 C. In the Badia, daytime temperatures are expected to reach 23 C before dropping to 10 C at night.

Low-lying regions will remain the warmest, with temperatures forecast between 25 C and 13 C in the northern Jordan Valley and 28 C and 16 C in the south. Aqaba is expected to record highs of 27 C and lows of 16 C.
