Amman, Feb. 3 (Petra) -- A sharp shift in weather conditions unfolds on Tuesday as rain, strong winds, and colder temperatures spread across large parts of the Kingdom, with forecasts pointing to a gradual improvement and rising temperatures through the end of the week.

The Meteorological Department said Tuesday’s system brought a noticeable temperature drop, with cold conditions prevailing under partly cloudy to overcast skies. Rain developed from the early morning hours in northern regions and expanded into central areas and parts of the east, with brief periods of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and hail increasing the risk of flash flooding in valleys and low-lying areas.

By afternoon, rainfall was expected to weaken over most areas, lingering lightly in parts of the southwestern regions. Westerly winds strengthened across the country, with gusts exceeding 60 kilometers per hour in some locations, stirring dust in Badia areas and reducing visibility, particularly on desert roads.

The department issued multiple warnings, citing the risk of flash floods in northern and central regions and parts of the east, as well as hazardous driving conditions caused by blowing dust, fog, and low cloud cover over elevated areas.

Weather conditions are forecast to stabilize from Wednesday, with temperatures edging higher. Despite the improvement, cold weather will persist across most regions, while milder conditions return to the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba under moderate northwesterly winds.

Further warming is expected on Thursday, with largely sunny skies and mild temperatures across most regions. Low-lying areas will remain relatively warm, with southeasterly winds becoming active at times.

By Friday, medium- and high-level clouds are expected to spread across the country, with mild conditions prevailing in most areas and relatively warmer weather continuing in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba.

On Tuesday, temperatures in eastern Amman ranged between 13 C and 6 C, while western Amman recorded between 11 C and 4 C. The northern highlands saw temperatures of 9 C to 4 C, and the Sharah highlands 10 C to 3 C. In the Badia, temperatures reached 17 C during the day before dropping to 4 C at night, while plains areas recorded between 14 C and 7 C.

Temperatures in the northern Jordan Valley ranged from 18 C to 9 C, rising to 21 C and 13 C in the south. The Dead Sea area recorded between 21 C and 12 C, while Aqaba saw highs of 22 C and lows of 12 C.
