Amman, Feb. 26 (Petra) -- World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, joined by Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, toured the Specialty Hospital in Amman on Wednesday to meet children evacuated from Gaza for urgent medical care.

During the visit, the delegation met several young patients and their families, hearing firsthand accounts of the hardships they endured as access to essential healthcare in Gaza became increasingly scarce amid prolonged conflict and restrictions. Many of the children faced significant delays in receiving critical treatment.

Hospital officials said the cases range from serious war-related injuries to complex blood disorders and other life-threatening conditions requiring highly specialized interventions.

Medical staff briefed the visitors on the coordinated treatment process, which begins with medical evacuation at the Jordanian border and continues through integrated, multidisciplinary care plans designed to address both physical recovery and psychological well-being.

Dr. Fawzi Al-Hammouri, Director-General of the Specialty Hospital, said the hospital’s efforts are part of the Royal initiative establishing the "Jordanian Medical Corridor," aimed at providing treatment for 2,000 children from Gaza. He emphasized that the hospital has mobilized its full medical and professional capacity in support of this humanitarian commitment.

He highlighted the close coordination with the WHO, the Jordanian Armed Forces – Arab Army, the Ministry of Health, and the national Crisis Cell to facilitate medical evacuations and ensure continuity of care.

Dr. Ghebreyesus commended Jordan’s leadership, under His Majesty King Abdullah II, for its longstanding humanitarian role in supporting refugees and providing advanced care to patients from Gaza. He also praised the contribution of Jordanian field hospitals operating inside the Strip.

The WHO chief also expressed admiration for the high standards of care delivered at the hospital and the dedication of its medical and administrative teams, noting the importance of addressing emotional and psychological needs alongside clinical treatment.

Prince Harry and Meghan conveyed their solidarity with the children and their families, offering words of encouragement and reaffirming their support for initiatives that aim to protect and restore the health and dignity of children affected by health crises in Gaza.
