Irbid, July 22 (Petra) -- The "Women’s Climate Action Network" was officially launched in Al-Wasatyeh Municipality on Wednesday, under the patronage of the Governor of Al-Wasatyeh District, Maysoon Al-Khasawneh, and in the presence of the Chairman of Al-Wasatyeh Municipal Committee, Fathi Al-Khasawneh, alongside initiative members.
Organized by the Rahma Foundation for Project Management and Development, the initiative brings together representatives from official and civil society institutions, as well as community leaders, to unify women's efforts and activate their role in addressing environmental and climate challenges while achieving sustainable development.
District Governor Al-Khasawneh emphasized that climate change represents one of the most pressing current global challenges due to its direct impacts on natural resources, food and water security, public health, and socio-economic development.
She noted that addressing environmental challenges is no longer an option but a necessary path requiring collaborative efforts among official entities, civil society, and individuals to enhance awareness and adopt sustainable practices.
Al-Khasawneh added that launching the network marks a qualitative step toward building bridges of cooperation and turning ideas into impactful projects, guided by royal directives to empower women and youth and to consolidate innovation and partnership.
For his part, Chairman of the Municipal Committee Fathi Al-Khasawneh stated that climate change has become a critical file demanding serious attention and solutions. He highlighted the creation of the network as a pivotal move toward bringing attention to the phenomenon and its direct effects on the environment and society, affirming the municipality's readiness to support such initiatives and provide necessary facilities to help the local community adapt to environmental challenges.
Nabil Obeidat, Director of the Al-Wasatyeh District Agriculture Directorate, announced that the directorate will carry out tree-planting campaigns along the district's main entrance and exit roads in support of the initiative. He stressed that the directorate, aligned with Ministry of Agriculture directives, works to counter climate change through practical, sustainable environmental solutions aimed at mitigating its impacts locally.
Khitam Al-Mazari, President of the Network, explained that the network was established under the umbrella of the Rahma Foundation for Project Management and Development as a community-led initiative. It comprises liaison officers representing the ten districts of the Irbid Governorate, all dedicated to climate change issues.
Speaking on behalf of the founding committee and liaison officers, Lubna Al-Rashdan stated that the network’s launch reflects a deep understanding that climate change extends beyond environmental dimensions to affect all aspects of stable life. She noted that the network aims to provide an institutional framework bringing together active women across the governorate's districts, transforming individual efforts into organized action capable of making a real and sustainable impact.
