Zarqa, Feb. 2 (Petra) - A specialized industrial workshop was held in the Dhuleil area of Zarqa governorate, with the participation of representatives of major Jordanian industries, to discuss ways to apply Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) technologies in the industrial sector, to enhance water-use efficiency and reduce the depletion of water resources.

The workshop was organized by the Al-Baha Company for Caustic and Chlorine Industry, under a grant from the Water Efficiency and Conservation (WEC) project, funded by the U.S. Embassy in Amman, as part of efforts to support practical and sustainable solutions in productive sectors.

Participants discussed the technical, operational, and economic aspects of zero liquid discharge technologies and presented local industrial experience in designing and operating these systems, encouraging other industrial companies to adopt them based on successful, applicable models.

Representatives of several major industrial groups in the Kingdom, along with official bodies and institutions concerned with the water and energy sectors, and companies specializing in water treatment, took part in the workshop, enabling broad discussions on opportunities to expand the use of these technologies in Jordan’s industrial sector.

The program included specialized sessions on the economic feasibility of reusing industrial water, presentations on the configurations and technologies of zero liquid discharge systems, and a field visit to an industrial plant applying this technology to review treatment and reuse stages.

The workshop was held as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships with the industrial sector and turn water conservation into an operational and economic opportunity, by reducing reliance on fresh and groundwater resources and maximizing the use of treated water, contributing to water sustainability in the Kingdom.
